Minnesota’s North Shore is a beacon for those who love camping, fishing, hiking, and simply being in nature. But the natural surroundings are not the only reason to visit. There are plenty of great shops, restaurants, and museums scattered along the long stretch of Highway 61 overlooking Lake Superior. Next time you’re traveling north, make a pitstop at Camp 61 Restaurant and Motel. This spot is straight out of the 1930s, and the food is as hearty as it is tasty. Here’s what you need to know:
Camp 61 Restaurant and Motel is a popular spot in Beaver Bay, Minnesota, along Highway 61. One part of the building dates back to 1937, making it one of the oldest eateries on the North Shore.
Visitors are drawn to the 8 comfortable rooms - each decked out with amenities that will make you happy to spend the night - but there's another draw, too. The Camp 61 restaurant has great food!
Like we mentioned before, one part of the restaurant dates back to the 1930s. The walls are decked out in interesting memorabilia, including some that harkens back to the logging camps that were once prevalent in the area.
When you sit down at your table in the comfortable dining room, you'll be able to take it all in. Both the long history of this place and the many visitors who stop here bring countless stories to the table.
You'll find favorites such as sandwiches, burgers, salads, chicken, and even tacos. It's all piled high, just as it would have been at a real 1930s logging camp.
