Minnesota is about as far from the ocean as you can get. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have our fair share of beaches! The state’s more than 10,000 lakes offer thousands of miles of shoreline, which are home to some truly outstanding beaches. While you aren’t likely to find seashells at Minnesota’s beaches, you can certainly find other treasures, including the state’s official gemstone: the Lake Superior agate. There are many places to hunt for these special rocks, including the beach we’d like to introduce today. Tucked away along the Lake Superior shoreline in Duluth, Brighton Beach might just be the best place to find agates.
Where are your other favorite places to hunt for agates? If you’d like to try your luck at a rock pile, you might enjoy an agate hunting trip to Get Pickin in Cloquet!
