Here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, it’s hard for an individual body of water to stand out. Unless it’s among the biggest, like Lake Superior, Mille Lacs, or Leech Lake, or the clearest, like Caribou Lake, most people haven’t likely heard of it. But that just makes it more exciting to discover lesser-known spots like the lake we want to introduce today. Big Marine Lake is one of the most underrated summer destinations in Minnesota. Thanks to its swimming beach, fishing dock, and clean waters, it’ll quickly become one of your favorite spots. Here’s what you’ll find when you visit:
Big Marine Lake is found in Washington County, Minnesota, in the city of St. Croix. It's part of Big Marine Park Reserve, a lovely 657-acre nature area. Many animals live in the park, including plenty of birds and fish.
The park has plenty of amenities designed to help visitors enjoy Big Marine Lake. For example, grassy areas around the lake are outfitted with shaded picnic tables. Pack a lunch and enjoy a whole day here!
Beyond picnics, one popular draw of the park is Big Marine Lake itself. Its clean waters have many fish, including largemouth bass, northern pike, walleye, crappie, and perch. A large fishing dock makes it easy to cast a line.
If you'd rather go a little deeper, there is a large boat launch that'll get you in the water in no time. Both motorized and non-motorized vehicles are allowed here.
Of course, one of the biggest draws of Big Marine Lake is the sandy swimming beach. Spread out a towel and enjoy the summer sun. Then, take a dip in the lake's cool, clean water.
Big Marine Lake is not the largest or most well-known Minnesota lake. But it is well worth visiting for those looking for a great spot to fish, swim, and enjoy the summer while it lasts!
