Minnesota is home to many outstanding sweet shops! We have bakeries, candy stores, ice cream shops, and more. One of our favorite spots happens to be in a place where you might not expect it: Minnesota’s Iron Range. This region is not well-known for its food, but it is home to more than a few great spots, including the one we’d like to introduce today. Head up to Virginia, Minnesota, to visit Canelake’s Candies. This small-town candy store makes the best homemade sweets in Minnesota!
Canelake’s Candies is a charming candy store in Virginia, Minnesota. This small town of around 8,000 people is just over 60 miles north of Duluth. If you’re spending some time up north, it could be a great place to stop and explore.
Canelake’s has been in business since 1905. For nearly 120 years, it’s created some of the most delicious homemade candies you can find in Minnesota. The shop is in its third generation of family ownership!
When you step in, you’ll immediately be impressed by the sheer number of treats available. This cheery shop looks like an old-fashioned candy store in the best possible way.
…but you can’t visit Canelake’s without trying some of their homemade creations. From chocolate to caramel to brittle and beyond, they are painstakingly prepared in house. It would be a shame not to try one or two or ten varieties!
You also can’t go wrong with a box of chocolates. This option lets you try many tasty combinations of flavors. They make great gifts or souvenirs from your trip!
Fudges, brittles, barks, and tasty chocolate, nut, and caramel turtles also make a showing in Canelake’s treat-lined cases. You truly cannot go wrong with anything you get.
Next time you’re in northern Minnesota, be sure to visit this small-town sweet shop. There’s a reason they’ve been in business for more than 100 years - their candies are some of the best in the state!
