Did you know that one of the oldest breweries in the country is in Minnesota? It’s found in the small town of New Ulm at August Schell Brewing Company. This brewery first went into business in 1860, and it’s only gotten better in the more than 150 years since. In 2021, the brewery opened a brand-new taproom that is sure to draw even more visitors. August Schell Brewing Company is a historic brewery in New Ulm, Minnesota. It opened in 1860 and has become an icon of Minnesota brewing in the more than 160 years since.
As the oldest family-owned brewery in Minnesota - and the second-oldest in the country - it should come as no surprise that Shell's has plenty of great beers on offer.
You can taste many of them at the brewery's brand-new taproom. There are 20 beers on tap from both Schell's and Grain Belt, so you're likely to find something you like.
The taproom is large and modern, with plenty of seating. Though it is brand-new, the large mural is a testament to the brewery's storied past. You'll find plenty to enjoy here.
If you visit on a nice day, you can even head out to the patio. It's surrounded by shady trees and full of umbrella-topped chairs, making it a great place to sit in the sun and enjoy a cold beer.
