Minnesota winters are tough. After all, our state is famous for its heavy snowstorms and below-zero temperatures. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of places to hole up and pass the time in comfort. Some of the best are the cozy restaurants found in every corner of our state. You’ll find endless options if you look hard enough. But one of our favorites is a spot in Waite Park, Minnesota, known as Anton’s. This might just be the coziest place in Minnesota for a winter meal, and they serve up comfort food at its finest. Take a look:
Anton's is a cozy log cabin restaurant in Waite Park, Minnesota, just outside of St. Cloud. The building was first constructed as a speakeasy named Bricky's during Prohibition in the 1920s
Later, in the 1970s, Anton and Lorraine Gaetz purchased the building. Improvements to the structure were made, and it's been a full-service, family-owned restaurant ever since.
Other spots in the restaurant offer great views of the Sauk River outside. In warmer months, there's a deck to eat on. But when it's cold outside, the coziest place is inside.
Anton's is open for lunch and dinner. If you're not too hungry, try one of their famous popovers. They're served with honey butter, and they're only $2 a pop. Try one with a cup of homemade soup for a light yet hearty lunch.
Of course, you can't go wrong with any of the other menu options either. Fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs are one favorite, or you might want to try a steak. They come with a popover and your choice of veggie or potato.
Anton's chicken boursin is also delicious thanks to the homemade boursin sauce. And if that won't quite do the trick, try one of many signature seafood dishes!
A winter trip to Anton's is just the thing for those looking for a great meal in a cozy setting. Add one of the many beers on tap for an even more warming experience.
Anton’s is open Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, including menus and more, take a look at the Anton’s website and Facebook page.
