Anyone who’s spent any time in Minnesota knows that the Land of 10,000 Lakes is full of wonderful hiking trails. They’re all over the state, but some of the most beautiful crisscross northern Minnesota’s wild landscape. For example, the Border Route Trail is a 65-mile trek that offers views of Canada. The trail to little-known Kawishiwi Falls is full of incredible beauty. And the Magnetic Rock Trail offers a glimpse of one of the state’s most unique rock formations. Today, we want to add yet another unique trail to the list. Angleworm Lake Trail, way up in the Superior National Forest, is a beautiful route through some of Minnesota’s most untouched wilderness. Angleworm Lake Trail is a 12-mile loop trail through the northernmost stretches of Minnesota. It is found in the Superior National Forest. The trailhead is accessible via St. Louis County Road 116.
Because of the trail's length, many hikers choose to camp along the trail. Permits are required for all overnight visitors. You can get your permit at the information are in the trailhead parking lot.
In some areas, the path is nothing more than a few boards spread out through the woods. You're not likely to encounter many people along the way, so take your time and enjoy the scenery.
As you walk through the peaceful woods, you'll come across several lakes. Whiskey Jack, Home, and Angleworm Lakes all make an appearance along the journey.
