Most of us grew up hearing stories so creepy that they keep us up at night. They’re so bizarre and unimaginable that we search for their origins and try to explain them. Michigan has no shortage of urban legends that have been passed down for generations. We decided to look into some of them, but be forewarned, you may have trouble getting to sleep tonight.
11) Gravity Hill, Arcadia
This massive space, chock full of secret passages and compartments, is believed to be haunted by the man who had it built in 1912, George D. Mason. The wealthy gentleman reportedly spent far too much on the elaborate temple, leaving him broke. After his wife left him, he is said to have leapt to his death from its rooftop.
Michigan is among the very few regions of the country where you can find black squirrels, which some believe are evil. Legend has it, Kellogg's cereal founder W.K. Kellogg had these shadowy rodents imported to fight off red squirrels, which he considered bad news.

Legend has it that the mysterious light that appears on this stretch of Highway 45 in the Upper Peninsula town of Paulding is actually the ghost of a railroad worker who was killed as he tried to switch a track. We also hear the ghost could be a Native American man who dances on the power lines.

The cries of war can allegedly still be heard at the site of the Battles of River Raisin during the War of 1812. Witnesses have also reported seeing figures in doorways, windows, and on the field.
It's probably one of the biggest Michigan mysteries of the 20th century, one that continues to intrigue. Investigators seem to get new tips every year, resulting in another dig.
