If you’re a fan of Michigan’s gorgeous Great Lakes, you’ve likely visited some of its most famous shoreline attractions and parks. From forested campgrounds near the beach to sandy picnic areas with lovely views, our state offers so many fantastic outdoor attractions. When you’re searching for an underrated gem to discover, head to this out-of-the-way park and beach in Michigan.
Buttersville Park is located at 1100 S Lakeshore Dr in Ludington.
If you’ve spent time in this area, you might have overlooked Buttersville in favor of larger and more popular spots like Ludington State Park. When you arrive, though, you’ll find lots to love.
The park is home to its very own 18.5-acre campground where guests can unwind and stay overnight between May 15th and October 15th each year. The views here are spectacular.
Campsites feature bluffside views of Lake Michigan, which seems to extend endlessly into the horizon. As if that weren’t enough, the park’s opposite shore offers frontage on Pere Marquette Lake.
Of course, camping isn’t the only activity that sets Buttersville Park apart from its neighboring destinations. The beach here is equally impressive, featuring both sand and rocky patches.
One unique element of the beach here is that it’s dog-friendly, so you can bring along your four-legged friend for a day of shoreline fun. On a summer afternoon, there’s truly nothing better.
Come sunset, the views from Buttersville are picture-perfect. As the sun sinks vibrantly into the waters of our beloved Big Lake, you might just want to snap a few photos to remember the moment.
When you’re on the lookout for a park, campground, and beach-going spot that brings together all the best elements of Michigan’s natural beauty, this Ludington gem belongs on your bucket list.
