This eeriness isn’t entirely without supporting evidence: throughout the years, Poverty Island has been home to its fair share of strange, downright spooky occurrences. In fact, many former lighthouse keepers and assistants have faced untimely deaths after becoming affiliated with the light station. In June 2019, further misfortune befell the 200-acre island, which was struck by on-and-off fires throughout the land.
While closed to the public, a drone video from Eddie Verhamme allows viewers to explore the many wonders of this one-of-a-kind destination. This particular drone video offers unique insight into the island's rugged natural beauty, which is only enhanced by its mysterious past.

In addition, the footage includes clips of nearby St. Martin Island, another remote locale that remains off-limits to the general public. St. Martin Island houses its own lighthouse, which was constructed in 1905, some 30 years after the construction of the Poverty Island Light Station.
