You can find this tranquil experience at the Japanese Cultural Center in Saginaw, Michigan. Saginaw became a sister city with Tokushima, Japan in 1961 and was created because of an exchange student at Michigan State University. Hiroyuki Takagi lived in Saginaw while going to college. When he returned home to Tokushima he formed a relationship between the two cities.

As a reminder of the two city’s friendship, the Japanese Cultural Center, Tea House, and Gardens opened in 1986 and has been serving the Saginaw community ever since. This Japanese garden in Michigan is open seasonally and weather permitting, completely free of charge.

Japanese Cultural Center
A sukiya-style Japanese Tea House is housed amongst the green foliage. A tour of the tea house and green tea is available for walk-in visitors (for a small fee) while reservations for this part of the experience at the Japanese Cultural Center in Michigan are required for a large group.
Interesting events are held at the center to immerse yourself in Japanese culture such as traditional tea ceremonies, lectures, and bonsai workshops. With so much to do and experience, we think these gardens in Michigan should be on your to-do list when you're in the area.
