After being integrated into the Coast Guard, the station was closed and demolished, but its historical relevance remains.
The Two Hearted River is also an ideal spot for fishing and has attracted sportsmen from across the country for decades. Several lodges are located along the river, which makes it an easy and calm location for a weekend trout-catching getaway.

Ernest Hemingway’s short story "Big Two-Hearted River" was named for this Michigan gem, although it’s been said that the story is actually centered around a different river in the Upper Peninsula. However, Hemingway was charmed by the name "Two-Hearted" and chose it for the title of his piece.
