Most of us don’t give a second thought to the street signs we pass while driving. Some street names are found in hundreds of towns across the country: Main Street, First or Second Street, State Street… the list continues. But others deserve a little extra attention. Here are a few interesting streets in Michigan that will make you giggle (or gasp).
1. Jughandle Road (Livonia)
Upon closer inspection, this road's silly name seems to have a legitimate meaning: the street itself is shaped a bit like a jug handle!
2. Emanon Street (Dearborn)
"Emanon" sounds like a meaningless name at first listen, but do you notice what it spells when it's read backwards? Clever move, Dearborn.
3. No Name Road (Livonia)
Google Maps
As was the case with Emanon Street, the founders of this road really seem to have been lacking in the creativity department. Or were they actually just amused by the idea of confusing generations of Livonia visitors? You be the judge!
4. Crapo Street (Mount Pleasant)
Don't worry - you won't be judged for snickering at the name of this street. A little immaturity from time to time never hurt anyone!
5. The Intersection Of Corporate And Crooks (Troy)
Hmm, it sounds like this intersection has a deeper political message to send. We'll let the folks on Wall Street handle this one.
6. Stoner Street (River Rouge)
It's no surprise that the street sign is missing from Stoner Street. People who live on this street have probably heard every marijuana joke in the book. Do you think there's a snack shop down the road for when residents get the munchies?
7. Gratiot Avenue (Detroit)
Gratiot isn't so much a crazy name as it is a point of pride for Michiganders who can pronounce it properly. Out-of-towners give themselves away as soon as they ask for directions to an address on "Gra-tee-ot" Avenue.
8. Sprinkle Road (Kalamazoo)
It's tough to drive down Sprinkle Road without being bombarded by visions of rainbow-colored donuts and ice cream sundaes.
9. Pyscho Path (Traverse City)
Maybe the person who named this street was a big Hitchcock fan. Or maybe they just wanted to keep unwanted visitors from driving down their road. Either way, it's certainly one of the most bizarre and unique street names in Michigan.
