St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. While you might typically spend this holiday sipping a few beers with friends or gently poking fun at coworkers for failing to wear green, there’s one St. Patty’s tradition here in the Great Lakes State that belongs on your March to-do list. The whole family is in for a treat when you venture to Detroit for the 2020 St. Patrick’s Parade.
The 62nd annual Detroit St. Patrick’s Parade will take place on Sunday, March 15th.
Whether you’re a lifelong attendee or a newcomer, you’ll fall in love with the festive spirit of this gathering. The parade kicks off at 1 p.m. and promises plenty of cheer.
You don’t have to be Irish to appreciate this tradition, which began in Dearborn in 1958 and has become an annual outing for families throughout the decades.
There’s a real sense of excitement during the parade, and this year’s events will be no exception. The route winds through Corktown, a neighborhood rooted in Irish heritage.
The parade will move west along Michigan Avenue, so be sure to grab a prime spot. You’ll enjoy everything from marching bands to vibrant floats to color guard units.
If you have kids, sign up to visit the Family Fun Zone, which features reserved seating and a variety of activities throughout the day. Reservations can be made here.
Of course, no St. Patrick’s Day celebration is complete without plenty of green, so don’t forget to dress up. No matter what the weather is like, you’ll be feeling the spirit.
Whether you’re carrying on a family tradition or creating something new, one thing is for sure: the Detroit St. Patrick’s Parade makes for an unforgettable March outing.
