Hot weather is upon us, and you know what that means: it’s time to start planning for your next waterfront adventure here in the Great Lakes State. We Michiganders are lucky to live close to some of the nation’s prettiest shorelines and freshwater wonderlands. There’s one such beach here in Michigan that’s sure to provide fun for the entire family over the coming months, and you’ll want to see for yourself.
Au Train Beach is located off M-28 in Au Train Township.
This Upper Peninsula gem offers visitors the chance to explore Lake Superior in all its beauty. Upon arriving, you’ll feel like you’ve been swept away to a beachy paradise.
Snag a free parking spot and make your way down a sandy path toward the shoreline. It’s easy to unwind and reconnect with nature when you spend a few hours here.
In addition to a beautiful lakefront, Au Train Beach also features a shallower outlet area where you can splash in a section of the Au Train River. Talk about family fun.
The river water is decidedly warmer than Lake Superior itself, but we recommend at least dipping your toes into the lake for a quick dose of summertime refreshment.
If you’re not in the mood to swim, set up a towel along the shore and soak up some sunshine. You’ll be pleased to find that Au Train Beach is rarely overcrowded.
Nature enthusiasts will want to snap a few photos during their visit, as the beach features plenty of picturesque waterfront views and pretty swaths of beach grass.
During your next journey to the reaches of the Upper Peninsula, be sure to make a stop at Au Train Beach. You’ll fall in love with this underrated Michigan destination.
