Michigan is home to all kinds of unique attractions, from a park filled with dinosaur replicas in Ossineke to Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum near Detroit. But there’s one town in the Great Lakes State that might just take the cake as the quirkiest of them all — and you’ll certainly want to visit for yourself.
The town of St. Ignace is located just over the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In fact, it’s the very first stop for visitors to the U.P.
When you arrive in this small community, you’ll find all sorts of activities to enjoy. At first glance, St. Ignace might strike you as a standard Michigan town.
Hop on a ferry bound for Mackinac Island, enjoy views of the Straits of Mackinac, or take a stroll along the boardwalk. There’s nothing out-of-the-ordinary to see here, right?
Wrong! No matter what sort of adventure you’re searching for, you’re sure to find something that strikes your fancy here in St. Ignace.
Make a trip to the "Mystery Spot," a famous attraction in the area where the laws of gravity simply don’t seem to apply.
Optical illusions, bizarre physical sensations, and mind-boggling occurrences will take you by surprise as you walk through this St. Ignace fixture.
Of course, the Mystery Spot isn’t St. Ignace’s only one-of-a-kind attraction. Visitors will also delight in a trip to the Deer Ranch, which is just what it sounds like: a family-friendly spot to get up-close and personal with deer!
Feed a few of these gentle creatures, marvel at beautiful albino deer, or simply watch as the animals roam about the pasture. Talk about a lovely excursion!
If you’re a history buff, head to Indian Village — a grouping of buildings and land where you can learn more about Native American culture in the region.
Before you leave St. Ignace, be sure to sign up for a Twilight Walking Tour. On this guided journey through town, you’ll hear about local legends, history, and maybe even a few ghost stories.
So, the next time you're searching for a charming and quirky destination right here in the Great Lakes State, look no further than St. Ignace. There’s no telling what’s in store!
