The town of Holland sits along the shores of Lake Michigan and is known for its Tulip Time Festival. As of summer 2019, though, there’s a vibrant new attraction to explore.
Centennial Park is situated in the heart of downtown, offering a delightful reprieve from everyday life with its vibrant greenery, pretty fountain, and gorgeous gazebo.
As of June 2019, the park houses the Holland Oz Project. This horticultural exhibit honors L. Frank Baum, who wrote the Wizard of Oz while vacationing in West Michigan.
Upon arriving, you’ll find a lovely yellow brick road to meander along. You might just feel as if you’ve taken a virtual journey to Oz as you follow this path through the park.
At the heart of the Oz Project is a massive 10 by 12-foot book made of gorgeous annual plants and plenty of vibrant greens. It’s tough to overstate the magic of this spot.
As development continues, personalized bricks will be added to the yellow brick road, offering community members and supporters a chance to be involved firsthand.
If that weren’t enough, project planners expect bronze statues of Oz characters to be placed at nearby Herrick District Library in the coming months. What’s not to love?
Whether you’re a longtime fan of Oz or a younger visitor seeking the chance to learn more about this enchanting world, you’ll fall in love with this outdoor gem.
