Now that the holidays are behind us, you might think that Michigan’s most exciting wintertime activities have ended. Think again: there’s one utterly unique event happening in the Great Lakes State that will surely amuse and delight every member of the family. When you’re in the mood for a quirky winter outing, make your way to this one-of-a-kind celebration.
The Trenary Outhouse Classic happens annually in the U.P. town of Trenary.
This year’s festivities will take place on Saturday, February 23rd. For 26 years, Yoopers and Trolls alike have flocked to Trenary for the delightfully silly celebration.
As its name suggests, the Outhouse Classic gives small teams of competitors the chance to construct and race outhouses through the streets of this tiny town.
Each outhouse must contain a toilet seat, a roll of toilet paper, and a set of skis for gliding through the snow. From the simple to the outrageous, you’ll see it all.
Racers are separated into age categories. When the signal is given, each team pushes its outhouse down Main Street in Trenary with hopes of securing the fastest time.
As if the races themselves weren’t enough, the Trenary Outhouse Classic also offers plenty of food and beverages, a variety of raffles and games, and so much more.
There’s even a "Best Fur Hat" competition for those who want to show off their warmest winter gear. We weren’t kidding when we said this event was one-of-a-kind.
By the time the winners have been crowned, you’ll feel as if you’ve jumped headfirst into one of the Upper Peninsula’s most original adventures. Toilet humorists unite!
