Kitch-iti-kipi, pronounced ("KITCH-i-tee-KI-pee" with short “i"s) is the largest natural freshwater spring in the state of Michigan. The name means “big cold water” in Ojibwe language.
The Ojibwe are one of the most populous tribes in North America. Prior to colonization, this was their territory.
Located within the Palms Book State Park, this spring is a major tourist draw to the area, despite the fact that it’s a bit out-of-the-way to get there.

The measurements of Kitch-iti-Kipi are a bit astounding—300 feet by 175 feet, plus a 40-foot depth. All of this is showcased in an emerald green color that is truly mesmerizing.

Around 10,000 gallons of water enter into the lake every minute from the various limestone fissures. Because this water is replenished as fast as it is, the pool maintains its temperature—a crisp 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
