The Milock Family Preserve, also known as the Upper Manistee Headwaters, is located off Camp Tapico Rd near the community of Kalkaska.

This breathtaking spot is sprawling, featuring more than 1,200 acres and a variety of unique habitats. The land was previously operated by the Boy Scouts as Camp Tapico.

Now under the ownership of the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, the preserve recently opened its bounds for public exploration. It’s easy to unwind when you stop by.

If you’re a fan of hiking, you’ll be happy to find approximately six miles of trails here. These pathways are also suitable for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and biking.
