Would you like to step back in time and visit an old-time general store in the Great Lake State? Head up north to the Upper Peninsula and stop by a general store in the tiny township of Limestone, Michigan. You’ll find delicious homemade pizza, a deli, and a bakery at this charming shop.
Limestone General Store is located in Alger County, about a 40-minute drive from Marquette. Limestone Township is a small community with less than 500 residents.
The exterior of the general store fills you with nostalgia for simpler times when you would take a bike ride to your local corner store. If you’re just passing through to head further up north, you can top off your gas tank at the antique gas pump.
The interior is reminiscent of an old-fashioned general store with everything you need, like beer, honey, maple syrup, pop, and local Michigan-made gifts.
You can’t visit the general store without trying the mouthwatering bread, cookies, and cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven. Don’t forget to grab a steaming cup of coffee to go with your pastry!
The baked goods are made from scratch, including cardamom and stollen sweet bread. There is also a deli on-site with sandwiches including Italian beef, veggie, and French dip.
Locals rave about the pizza that is completely homemade down to the sauce and dough. Herbs are folded into the crust, which makes it the best pizza in town. You have to stop by this incredible hidden gem in the Upper Peninsula.
