There’s nothing quite like walking into a historic manor and imagining what the walls have seen. For example, the beautiful Robinson Manor in Allegan, Michigan is loaded with local history. The manor has had many roles over the years and even sat vacant for a time, but now it is a thriving spot for the West Michigan community and hosts several events throughout the year.
Robinson Manor is located in West Michigan, a 45-minute drive from Grand Rapids.
The manor was built in 1909 as a community hospital, psychiatric ward, and tuberculosis ward. In the 1950s it became the Allegan Elks Lodge until 2010. Allegan Lodge was then sold and ended up sitting vacant for years.
The first floor was lovingly restored in 2019 and now has a warming kitchen, a lovely staircase, and floor-to-ceiling white pillars. The sitting room boasts a cozy fireplace, a baby grand piano, and ornate antique furniture.
In 2022 renovations were completed on the second floor to add an elevator in the manor. The main event is the glorious grand ballroom that hosts many extravagant parties, including weddings, beneath luminous vintage chandeliers.
If you live for themed events like masquerade balls, Halloween parties, and murder mysteries nights, then you’ve found just the place. Robinson Manor always has fun activities for children and adults alike. There’s something magical about attending a masquerade ball in an actual ballroom!
