Michigan is lucky to have several restaurants that have withstood the test of time, and it’s a testament to the dedication of the families behind the scenes that work hard to serve you an incredible meal in an unforgettable setting. So often, these restaurants are passed down from generation to generation, with each new generation learning the tricks of the family business while adding their own little touches here and there. There’s one particular family-owned restaurant In Michigan that’s a bit of a local legend, and it’s worth a road trip from any corner of the state.
Before Amore da Roma, there was the Roma Cafe, which was opened by the Marazza family in 1888.
In its first two years, it served the local vendors and farmers of Eastern Market before becoming the Roma Cafe in 1890.
Michigan’s oldest restaurant was purchased by a new family in 1918, and it ran for nearly a century before a new owner took over in 2017, this time with a new name, Amore da Roma.
