If you’re a beach bum, you’re undoubtedly aware that Michigan is home to some of the most stunning shorelines in the world. Our Great Lakes are nothing short of magical, offering freshwater fun for the entire family and plenty of opportunities to unwind atop the sand. While there’s something to be said for checking out a well-loved, popular beach spot, nothing beats the experience of visiting a hidden gem. One such locale here in Michigan is the perfect place for an outdoor adventure.
Negwegon State Park is located off Negwegon Park Rd near Ossineke.
This breathtaking area sits just inland from Lake Huron and offers visitors an opportunity to experience what feels like untouched nature. It’s easy to get happily lost at this lesser-known park.
The park itself boasts upwards of 4,000 acres and is described as “underdeveloped,” a nod to the rugged and wonderfully wild terrain that abounds throughout. There’s so much to love here.
If you choose to visit the park, you’ll want to make sure that your vehicle can handle its sandy roads - in fact, many Negwegon visitors recommend driving a jeep or four-wheel drive option.
While many visitors come here to hike or hunt, there’s a spectacular gem to be found within the park limits: a gorgeous beach that offers unparalleled access to the cool waters of Lake Huron.
Upon accessing the parking area, beach access can be found just a brief 50-yard walk away. In total, though, there are more than six stunning miles of shoreline within the park.
If you’re extra adventurous, turn your visit to Negwegon State Park into a full-blown outdoor excursion. Experienced outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy opportunities for backcountry camping.
Whether you’re just stopping by to appreciate one of Michigan’s most underrated beaches or embarking on a rugged journey through nature, this state park is sure to become a new favorite.
