Sometimes the most magnificent and beautiful structures are abandoned to the ravages of time and left as haunting husks of their former selves. The Woodward Avenue Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Michigan is one such place. What was once a glorious church is now crumbling into a creepy edifice of decay, like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie.

Construction began on this church on January 1, 1910, and was completed a year and a half later. It cost about $100,000 and was funded by donations from local Presbyterians. It would be about $3 million in today's money.

By 1921, over 2200 members congregated in this once gorgeous hall, which now looks like it might serve as a gathering place for a congregation of ghosts.

This auxiliary sanctuary was once used as a Sunday School room. These days it's a crumbling remnant with broken furniture and decaying walls.

The rotting wood of the roof is falling apart and poses a dangerous hazard to any who might try to explore. This church thrived for only 30 years before members moved from the city to the suburbs in the 1950s. It eventually closed in 2005 after the death of the pastor.

The Woodward Avenue Presbyterian Church is built in an English Gothic style, measuring 184 feet by 104 feet, and is constructed of rough rock with limestone trim. This church has changed ownership several times since its abandonment. A tech company was starting to restore the building, however, it was disallowed to do business in Detroit after having bribed a city official. Michigan is full of creepy, abandoned places, and you can see many of them for yourself on this road trip we’ve created, and you can even find a complete town that has been abandoned!
