We love learning all about Michigan’s rich history. But some of our findings are just a little more… ahem… creepy than others. Case in point, if you dare to venture into any number of the state’s century-plus old buildings, you’re bound to encounter the essence of a ghostly past, the type of hauntings that are sure to keep you up at night, wondering what evil lurks.
You're not afraid of the "shadow people," are you? At this classic, yet haunted mansion, these otherworldly creatures are known to lurk the hallways and sometimes are said to be responsible for the occasional slamming door.
No one knows for sure if this 19th century state hospital is actually haunted. But walk through the creepy halls of this faclity, which at one time treated patients with tuberculosis, typhoid, diphtheria, and polio, and you'll feel some kind of creepy presence.

7) The Henderson Castle, Kalamazoo
Ghosts are said to be frequent guests at this B&B. In fact, the ghouls are rumored to be the original family members and regularly try to communicate with visitors.
The ghost of famed pilot Amelia Earhart, a former guest at this inn, is said to remain a guest, and on occasion, is known to haunt the very Room 502 where she stayed.
Once a state-of-the-art psychiatric facility, this hospital fell into controversy for the negligent manner in which they treated patients. Subjected to attacks by other patients and staff members, left to chain smoke and watch TV all day, the tortured souls are said to still linger in this now derelict, abandoned property.
Here, you'll come across the "lady in white," whose ghostly presence may or may not have something to do with the creepily high number of traffic accidents in the area.
What is it? A natural phenomenom? A UFO? Or something more dastardly? No one really knows how this mysterious light display appears in the UP community.
Rumors of hauntings here have remained in the decades since this Catholic orphanage closed its doors in the mid 20th-century. It may have something to do with the disturbing death of one of the children, who caught pneumonia after playing outside during a blizzard. The nuns there displayed the child's body in front of the other kids to serve as a warning not to go out in the cold. To this day, the sounds of children crying are said to occupy this now empty space.
1) Reynolds Cemetery, Jackson
Every year on the night of Nov. 21, people gather at the Reynolds Cemetery in Jackson to try to catch a glimpse of the spirits of Jacob Crouch and his daughter Eunice, who were brutally murdered in their sleep in 1883. Also killed were Eunice’s husband Henry and a friend, Moses Polley. The mass murder went down in history as Jackson’s most infamous unsolved mystery. To this day, the site attracts ghost hunters, who are trying to capture the essence of this haunted place.
