There’s a castle in Michigan that could be straight out of the Harry Potter books. With conical towers, stone walls, and vast gardens, Castle Farms in Charlevoix is the perfect place for Potterheads to pretend they are at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and it’s a prime location for a wedding. Believe it or not, this place was once a popular venue for rock concerts. Once known as Castle Farms Music Theatre, it ran from 1977 to 1996 and hosted musicians and bands such as Donovan, Cheap Trick, Billy Squier, Willie Nelson, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. These days, it is the premier place in Michigan for fairytale weddings, and for fantasy fans to celebrate in a wondrous medieval setting – especially Harry Potter events! (And yes, they do host a few!)
How would you like to spend a weekend at a place like this? You'll find this magical-looking castle in northern Michigan not far from Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan, and it's surrounded by lush forests.
This Hogwarts-esque castle is a great place for a Harry Potter event.
Even the gardens are reminiscent of those surrounding Hogwarts in the movies and in our childhood imaginations. The fountain is a great place to throw in a coin and make a wish.
There’s a roaring dragon in the courtyard, but as far as anyone can tell, it seems to be friendly. With its red scales, it might be a Liondragon, or Chinese Fireball dragon.
Actually, you'll find an entire Enchanted Forest, with a trail full of dragons and whimsical creatures.
Put some long, rectangular tables in here, and you could recreate the Great Hall at Hogwarts. It’s a splendid place for all your wizard and witch friends to have a feast.
For a bit of extra whimsy, this Michigan castle boasts a massive toy railroad with various dioramas of old-fashioned buildings. All ages will be entranced for hours with this detailed miniature railway.
For weddings, special events, and just to admire, this is definitely one of the most enchanting places in Michigan!
One of a few castles in Michigan that you can actually visit, Castle Farms in Charlevoix offers various tours by tram or on foot. You can choose to have a guided or self-guided historical tour. There’s even a World War I museum and a wine cellar where you can purchase the castle’s own wines!
