The Great Lake State has plenty of incredible beaches that are very popular in the summer. But what about visiting a beach in a tiny town that isn’t as well known? This state park in Harrisville, Michigan is a lovely freshwater beach without the crowds. As much as I love visiting Michigan’s most famous beaches, spending time at smaller and secluded beaches is a personal favorite.
Harrisville State Park is located in the small town of Harrisville with a population of less than 500 residents.
There is excellent bird watching so keep your eyes peeled for vireos, thrushes, nuthatches, warblers, sparrows, and wrens, which can be found here. You can explore the area by walking the two-mile Cedar Run Nature Trail, which weaves through the forest.
You can spend the night at the state park campground, which has clean and modern bathrooms. During your stay, you can venture out to the resort town of Harrisville by walking the two-mile Heritage Trail, which connects to the town.
Harrisville State Park isn’t just an amazing place to visit for a summer beach day; it’s also spectacular in the fall. The forest at the state park is set ablaze with autumn color and it’s a sight to behold.
Whether you’re looking for a new favorite camping spot, a sandy beach on the east side of the state, or a great fall hike, Harrisville State Park is just what you need.
