If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, you know that Michigan’s natural beauty is worth exploring all year long. Whether we’re basking in the sunshine on a summer afternoon or playing in the snow after a winter storm, those of us who love nature appreciate the magic of the Great Lakes State in every season. One of Michigan’s prettiest attractions is extra spectacular in the winter – and you’ll want to see for yourself. Let’s get out there and enjoy winter in the Upper Peninsula at Canyon Falls in Michigan.
Canyon Falls and Gorge sits off Old US Hwy 41 in L’Anse.
This Upper Peninsula gem is nothing short of breathtaking, offering curious visitors the chance to appreciate otherworldly wonder right here in the gorgeous Great Lakes State.
Sometimes referred to as “the Grand Canyon of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula,” Canyon Gorge itself surrounds the Sturgeon River and features towering bluffs that are sure to impress.
When you’re ready to explore, lace up your hiking boots and follow a largely level trail that extends for approximately a mile before offering access to Canyon Falls.
To view the gorge, keep trekking past the falls - but be sure to exercise caution and bundle up when visiting during the icy winter months. U.P. temperatures are no joke.
As you appreciate the forested surroundings, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a peaceful and snowy wonderland. Gaze out at the gorge, which juts 300 feet down at its deepest.
You might even want to bring along your camera when you check out this brilliant destination during the wintertime, as the scenery and atmosphere here are so worth remembering.
Whether you’re headed out for a winter adventure or making plans for the warmer season, one thing is for sure: Michigan’s very own Grand Canyon belongs on your bucket list.
