If you’re ready for some fresh air, head to this unique locale near Detroit.
Humbug Marsh can be accessed via 5437 W. Jefferson Ave in Trenton.
This fascinating natural destination, which sits just 30 minutes by car from the heart of downtown Detroit, is an absolute must-see for Motor City locals who appreciate exploring the great outdoors.
The marsh itself is part of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, a sprawling collection of natural gems that make up more than 6,000 acres along the shores of the beautiful Detroit River.
Upon arriving at Humbug Marsh, you’ll understand why this 410-acre area is so spectacular. The marsh is home to the last remaining undeveloped mile of Detroit River frontage within the U.S. mainland.
This is so much more than your standard natural attraction. In fact, Humbug helps preserve flora and fauna within a Great Lakes coastal habitat that has seen rapid decline throughout the decades.
When you visit, you’ll enter through the “Refuge Gateway” area and find a convenient parking area. While the on-site Orange Trail is worth exploring, the Green Trail provides further views of the marshland.
If you choose to explore the full trail system, you’ll walk for approximately 2.75 miles. Keep your eyes peeled for amphibians, plenty of unique birds, an assortment of towering trees, and so much more.
When you’re ready to escape the city for a day, hop in the car and make the short drive to Humbug Marsh and the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. This place is sure to capture your heart.
