If you’re from the Detroit area, you’ve probably heard about Island Lake Recreation Area.
Located only about 40 minutes outside of Detroit, this 4,000-acre park in Livingston County is perfect for those days when you just need a little “me time,” but don't have the time to truly get away for a weekend.
Even though Island Lake may be one of the busiest parks in the state, it's so big you could easily feel like you have the place to yourself. There’s plenty of attractions to keep you occupied, including a shooting range, a metal detecting area, four boat launches, and so much more.
In addition to the four miles of paved trails that winds through the park, there’s also 14 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails that will take you on quite the scenic journey. You could easily spend all day here and not see everything the park offers.
With gorgeous views of the water and the sounds of songbirds adding the perfect natural soundtrack to your day, you’ll feel a million miles away from it all.
