If you want to escape the city for a day, than you must check out these awesome hiking trails near Detroit. These trails will take you through stunning backwoods and past picturesque lakes you won’t see anywhere else. So grab a friend and get your hiking boots on for these incredible nature trails.
Milford Trail is a little over four miles and connects the Village of Milford to Kensington Park in Oakland County. You'll walk, run or jog through woodlands and wetlands and end your trail seeing the beautiful Kent Lake.
Stony Creek Metropark connects with Shelby, Oakland and Washington Townships, making up 27 miles of trails. There are hikes for beginners who can check out the nature walks, and trails for experts who don't mind doing a little climbing.

The Hines Park Trail is a 20 mile trail that begins at the beautiful University of Michigan Dearborn campus, where you can stop and visit the Henry Ford Estate and continue going through backwoods. If you end up staying on the path, you'll find yourself along the Rouge River to Northville.

Proud Lake Recreation is located in Commerce Township, Oakland County and has over 20 miles of trails where you'll get stunning views of the Huron River. The recreation area also offers rowboats, canoes and kayak rentals.

The West Bloomfield Trail goes on for seven miles through West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake, Keego Harbor and Sylvan Lake. You'll find a nature preserve, bird watching spots, and if you go off the trail a bit, you can see the wildlife roaming the woods like foxes and rabbits.
The Macomb Orchard Trail in Macomb County is 23.5 miles of trail where you'll start at Shelby Township and end up in Richmond. The path can get busy at certain times, but when you make it to the end, you'll notice the beauty of the countryside with farms and fruit orchards.
The Paint Creek Trail is located in northeast Oakland County and goes through Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland Township, Orion Township and the Village of Lake Orion. The trail is about nine miles and is the state of Michigan's first trail to be converted from a rail line.

Walk through towering trees and breathe in the fresh air while you trail the Indian Springs Metropark located in White Lake, Michigan. The park is a total of over 2,500 acres of wooded wetlands and nature trails labeled for hikers. There is also a nature center and an Enviromental Discovery Center.
