Don’t let the arrival of autumn keep you from enjoying your favorite outdoor activities here in the Great Lakes State. While temperatures might drop over the coming weeks, there’s still plenty of fun to be had among the fresh air in Metro Detroit. One charming hiking spot near the Motor City will easily become a new favorite. Prepare for gorgeous fall foliage, lakefront splendor, and so much more.
Haven Hill Lake is located within Highland Recreation Area, which can be accessed via 5200 Highland Road in the community of White Lake.
This 5,900-acre park sits just under one hour from Detroit by car, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a day trip. There’s something here to impress every family member.
While the recreation area as a whole features seemingly endless opportunities for outdoor fun, one of its most marvelous attractions is the beautiful Haven Hill Natural Area.
This serene section of the broader recreation area was once owned by Edsel Ford, the son of Henry Ford. As you explore the area, you’ll enjoy a combination of history and nature.
When you embark on the Haven Hill Lake and Woods Loop, you’ll be treated to 2.2 miles of flora and fauna. This includes, of course, lovely views of Haven Hill Lake itself.
The terrain is described as moderate in terms of difficulty, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear as you explore. During autumn, vibrant foliage abounds along the path.
Gaze up at colorful trees and take in the peaceful atmosphere along the lake, which will surely enchant you with its still waters. You might never want to head home to Detroit.
Whether you’re a hiking fanatic or a curious Motor City resident seeking some true quietude and rejuvenation, a visit to Haven Hill Lake will undoubtedly capture your heart.
