Roll down the windows, turn up the tunes, and set the GPS for Gibraltar Bay Alpaca Farm in Grosse Ile, less than 40 minutes from downtown Detroit.

And, once you arrive at the picturesque 12-acre alpaca farm run by Richard and Gail Steffke, you'll instantly fall in love with the...

...dozens of alpacas that call the farm home. (Boarder alpacas also live on the farm.) In fact, you can pet the alpacas or simply watch them from afar, snapping photos.

However, despite the opportunity for guests to pet and to mingle with the alpacas, Gibraltar Bay is a working farm with the fuzzy animals producing fiber to make yarn.

Join the nearly 300 visitors that make the trek to the alpaca farm each week, where you can head out into the pasture or go into the pens to meet the animals.

And, if you're lucky, you might visit on the day the alpacas are sheared.

Of course, you can't visit Gibraltar Bay without stopping in the shop that's chock full of yarn made from alpaca fiber and...

...hats, purses, shawls, capes, rugs, and teddy bears.
