Fall is officially here and that means enjoying the amazing leaves as they change colors, seeing homes decked out with spooky Halloween decorations and, of course, getting your hands on tasty apple cider! Whether you like it fizzy and alcoholic or just fresh from the farm, there is a perfect cider out there for everyone. Lucky for us, there are a few awesome cider mills that are just a short drive from Detroit that you’ll absolutely love.
Franklin Cider Mill was established in 1837 and continues to feature a family-friendly atmosphere. They offer a large variety of yummy treats to try, including donuts, baked goods, honey, candy, and freshly picked apples. They also have wonderful activities for people of all ages, from carriages rides to musical acts.
Yates Cider Mill began making cider in 1876 and the mill still produces power from the Clinton River to press apples into cider. Enjoy their mouthwatering donuts (said to be the best donuts you can find) and the beautiful surrounding parks for a true fall experience.
Erwin Orchards & Cider Mill is a wonderful place for apple picking, eating tasty donuts, drinking fresh cider, and they also offer a bunch of things for kids to do. They have 14 varieties of apples, sweet cherries, raspberries, pumpkins, and asparagus that you can pick all on your own!
Dexter Cider Mill is the oldest cider mill still in operation in all of Michigan. Their cider is absolutely delicious – sweet, with a touch of tartness. Their bakery offers donuts, caramel apples, and apple nut bread.
Apple Charlie's Orchard & Cider Mill has been making cider, apple pies, and apple-chopped cinnamon bread for over 50 years. The ciders are unpasteurized and have just the right amount of sweetness. The donuts are perfectly crisp on the outside with a soft, pillowy center. They even have dwarf apple trees for easy picking!
Enjoy freshly pressed, award winning cider, crispy caramel apples, donuts, and icy apple cider slushies at Plymouth Orchards & Cider Mill. The orchard is also a fantastic place for kids, offering wagon rides, an animal park, and October pumpkin picking.
