The holiday season is absolutely magical throughout Metro Detroit, whether you choose to spend your time gazing at Christmas lights, ice skating with loved ones, or shopping for unique presents. When you’re ready to enjoy wintertime in an utterly enchanting way without leaving the Motor City, there’s one activity that belongs on your must-do list. Bundle up and head downtown for a fantastic outing.
The Woodward Esplanade is located directly south of Campus Martius Park in Detroit.
It’s here that you’ll find one of the Motor City’s most marvelous Christmastime activities: a breathtaking horse-drawn carriage journey through the heart of downtown Detroit.
Round up the family or take your sweetheart by the hand and prepare to have a total blast. When you opt for a carriage ride, you might just feel like you’ve stepped into a real-life fairy tale.
Each ride lasts for 15 to 20 minutes and takes participants on a whimsical spin through the bustling city. On a cold winter night, there’s truly nothing more exciting, cozy, or romantic.
At a cost of just $10 per person or $40 for a private group, these charming tours are the perfect way to embrace holiday cheer while remaining happily snuggled up with loved ones.
Carriage rides are offered every Friday and Saturday from 6 - 11 p.m. from mid-November through the end of December, with extended hours on New Year's Eve (6 p.m. - midnight).
Don’t forget to snap a few photos along the way. After all, you’ll spot everything from twinkling holiday lights to intricately decorated buildings to cheerful shoppers during your outing.
Rides cannot be booked in advance, so simply pick an evening and show up. Even the Grinch himself would find it impossible to deny the delights of a Detroit carriage adventure.
