Ann Arbor AAUW Hosts Best Annual Book Sale Near Detroit

Bookworms rejoice: it’s almost time for an unforgettable tradition that will leave you with a smile on your face and a sizable stack of new books. In just a few short weeks, one of the most fantastic book sales near Detroit is slated to return for its 67th year, and you’ll undoubtedly want to drop by. There’s no better place to find incredible deals on a vast selection of titles.

The 2019 AAUW Ann Arbor Book Sale will take place September 6-8 at Washtenaw Community College, which sits at 4800 E Huron River Drive in Ann Arbor.

This fun gathering is so worth the hour-long drive from Detroit. No matter what your age, you’ll certainly find a few new books to take home when you visit the sale.

As its name suggests, the event is happily hosted by Ann Arbor’s branch of the American Association of University Women. The inaugural book sale took place in 1953.

While the sale’s venue and organization have shifted throughout the years, its dedication to providing local residents with affordable literary access has not.

Each year, AAUW members embark on a daunting sorting process as they prepare thousands of donated books for display at the beloved sale.

Most books are priced at between $1 and $3. On Sunday, you can even take home all the books you can fit into a paper grocery bag for just $8 - or two bags for $15.
