We Detroiters are lucky to live in such close proximity to several breathtaking bodies of water. While our Great Lakes and rivers sure are gorgeous, they also provide us with an incredible gift: fresh, delicious fish! These nine restaurants in the Motor City serve up delectable seafood dishes from home and abroad.
1. Joe Muer (GM Renaissance Center, 400 Renaissance Center #1404)
This Detroit classic has been revived and is now tucked away inside the Renaissance Center. With stunning views of the Detroit River and all sorts of delightful wines to choose from, Joe Muer is perfectly charming — but its seafood dishes truly take the cake. Try the oven-roasted barramundi for a unique option, or keep it simple with an order of oysters.
2. Prism (555 E Lafayette S)
Head to Greektown for a meal at Prism, which provides a high-class dining experience that’s perfect for your next date night. With everything from salmon to baby clams, there’s something on Prism’s menu to satisfy every craving. Feeling lucky? You’re just steps away from Greektown Casino, where you can try your hand at a few slots when your meal is over!
3.
The Original Wave’s Inn (20351 Grand River Ave)
You can’t go wrong with a stop at this Motor City favorite, which serves up shrimp and fish with the perfect amount of deep-fried goodness. Catfish, perch, whiting… it’s all on the menu at Wave’s Inn, and it’s all mouthwatering. It's a tiny eatery, but it certainly packs in plenty of wonderful flavor.
4. Crab House (19721 W Seven Mile Rd)
This small eatery might look modest from the outside, but its food will keep you coming back for more. Are you feeling hungry? You’ve come to the right place — pick up a half-pound order of shrimp that will fill you up in no time. Of course, you can’t come to a restaurant called "Crab House" without indulging in a few snow crab legs. Mmm.
5. Fishbones (400 Monroe Ave)
When you dine at Fishbones, you’ll swear you’ve been transported to the French Quarter. Enjoy seafood dishes with a cajun twist at this Greektown fixture, which features a bright, colorful atmosphere. Whether you order jambalaya or sushi, there’s something at Fishbones to satisfy your cravings.
6. Scotty Simpson’s Fish & Chips (22200 Fenkell Ave)
This simple, modest eatery might not look like much from the outside, but it serves up fish & chips that will keep you returning time after time! No matter what you order at Scotty Simpson’s, you can’t go wrong — but if seafood isn’t your thing, try one of the restaurant’s burgers or other classic American dishes.
7. Harbor House (440 Clinton Street)
This one-of-a-kind restaurant features a gorgeous atmosphere, complete with brick walls, high ceilings, and moody lighting. But its food is the real star of the show, and you’ll quickly understand why. Indulge in an order of lobster mac ’n cheese, which is just as creamy and delicious as it sounds. You also can’t go wrong with the calamari, crab cakes, gumbo… the list continues!
8. Bosco Fish and Seafood (16227 Livernois Ave)
Grab an order to go from this no-frills market and seafood counter in the Motor City. Diners recommend the jumbo shrimp, steamed crab legs, and gumbo — or you can purchase fresh seafood by the pound and take it home to cook it on your own! There’s truly an option for everyone at Bosco.
9. Parc (800 Woodward Ave)
Oysters, mussels, yellowtail… if it exists under the sea, you’ll likely find it at Parc! This eatery serves up some of the most delicious seafood in town, but its atmosphere is just as awesome. Located at the center of Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit, there’s always something to see during your meal at Parc. In winter months, you can even watch ice skaters fly by as you indulge in a delicious dinner.
