We Detroiters know that our hometown is amazing. Despite the negative press we’ve received over the years, we continue to be proud of our Motor City roots. A recent ranking has rightfully placed Detroit near the top of its “must-visit” list, and we’re thrilled to see our city receiving the positive recognition it deserves.
The Lonely Planet has long been respected as one of the top travel companies in the world, with an extensive collection of guidebooks and related resources.
The company has just released its rankings for "Best In Travel," and part of this project includes a listing of the top ten must-visit cities for 2018.
Top honors were awarded to Seville, Spain — but guess which city is just a step behind in the number two slot? That’s right: it’s our very own Detroit, Michigan.
We’re grateful to see Detroit gaining popularity as a tourist destination! With a vibrant culture and all sorts of unique attractions, our city is endlessly fascinating.
Our love for sports is also a major draw. As the host city for the Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, and Pistons, there’s always a game to catch here in the Motor City.
From the Detroit Institute of Arts to a plethora of smaller galleries, Detroit is an art-lover’s heaven. Photographers and other creative types flock to our city in droves.
Don’t forget the riverfront! The Detroit River boasts beautiful views, a variety of dinner cruises, and all sorts of public park space along the shoreline.
As if that weren’t enough, our city is rich in history. From the auto industry to the birth of Motown, Detroit is overflowing with opportunities to learn about the past.
Hungry? Detroit’s got you covered. Coney dogs, Slows Bar-BQ, craft beer, sliders, Greek cuisine, and Middle Eastern fare — there’s something here for every palate.
We could go on and on, but Detroit is included near the top of a "must-visit" list for a reason: you simply must visit for yourself to fully grasp the delights of our city.
