The arrival of springtime in Michigan is accompanied by all sorts of natural splendor. From colorful flowers to the thawing blue waters of our Great Lakes, there’s plenty to see throughout the state. But there’s only one spring destination here in Michigan that can be described as truly magical, and you’ll undoubtedly want to experience it for yourself. Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about a breathtaking butterfly house in Michigan.
Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park can be found at 1000 E Beltline Ave NE in Grand Rapids.
Throughout the year, this one-of-a-kind destination comes to life with artwork, music, holiday events, and so much more - but its annual butterfly exhibit certainly stands out.
From now through April 30th, visitors to Frederik Meijer Gardens can explore the Fred and Dorothy Fritcher "Butterflies Are Blooming" event. No matter what your age, you’ll be enamored.
This is no ordinary butterfly house. When you step inside the gorgeous conservatory at Frederik Meijer Gardens, you’ll be entering the nation’s largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibition.
Marvel at butterflies of all colors and varieties as you stroll among the lovely foliage. With 7,000 butterflies, this exhibition is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
The temperature in the conservatory sits at 85 degrees Fahrenheit for the duration of the exhibition, so you’ll certainly want to hang up your coat before heading inside!
There are 50 breathtaking species of butterfly to observe during your time inside the conservatory. From Emperor Swallowtails to Yellow Longwings, there’s no telling what you’ll spot.
If you’re lucky, a butterfly or two might even temporarily perch on your shoulder or head! Be sure not to touch, though: the wings of these stunning creatures are fragile.
For many Michiganders, a visit to the "Butterflies Are Blooming" exhibition is a true family tradition. After all, the program is now in its 23rd year of operation!
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime admirer of this fantastic tropical butterfly event, you’re sure to have a blast this spring at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.
