Spring and summer in Michigan bring about images of swimming in the Great Lakes, flower festivals, and blueberry picking. But there is also a popular indoor attraction that opens in the warmer months which is a delight for people of all ages. This Butterfly House in Mackinac Island, Michigan is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, children, and photographers.
The Original Mackinac Island Butterfly House & Insect World was established in 1991 and is located on Mackinac Island.
See butterflies of every color and size free-flying through the garden. You’ll have a relaxing experience with classical music and falling water sounds from the whimsical waterfall in the center of the garden.
The facility is wheelchair-accessible and photography is encouraged. Remember to bring your favorite camera but leave the tripod at home as that can hinder wheelchair access.
The butterflies are absolutely beautiful and, if you’re lucky, one may even land on you. Be calm and do not touch the butterflies because they are fragile creatures.
But there are even more fascinating insects to see. In Insect World you will encounter tropical insects from all over the world. Walking sticks, giant beetles, spiders, and centipedes are on display along with the world’s heaviest bug.
