I'm proud to be from the great state of Michigan. I've lived in the Mitten several different times throughout my life spending time in all corners of it. My journeys took me up and down the Lake Michigan coast, out east to explore Detroit and Ann Arbor, and to the dense forests of the UP.
Before writing with Only In Your State, I worked as a local TV news reporter and anchor, most recently in South Bend. Many of the stories I covered took place in Southwest Michigan. My roots are even deeper in the Wolverine State as I often head to Kalamazoo to visit family.
When I'm not out exploring nature, I'm avidly watching sports. I specifically have a deep love for the Michigan Wolverines (my alma mater), and I get to write about them and several other Big Ten teams as and editor for Athlon Sports. I also love to enjoy the great outdoors with my wife and our dog, Piper.
I'm excited to share all my favorite Michigan destinations with you. Keep exploring.

One of Michigan’s best cities is deserving of one the Best Hotels & Resorts In Michigan, and that’s exactly what you’ll find at The Henry Hotel, Autography Collection by Marriot. Located within arms reach of the Motor City in Dearborn, you’ll be able to indulge in everything this hotel and Michigan’s biggest city have to offer.
Let’s start by taking a look at some of the reasons you should consider The Henry if you’re making you’re way near Detroit any time soon.
Get ready to feel like royalty as soon as you enter. This luxurious lobby features beautiful art, a stunning chandelier, and plenty of comfortable places to lounge.
This four-star hotel lives up to the expectations of its guests. Be prepared to dish out some cash though as rooms start above $230 per night depending on when you book.
The rooms are just as gorgeous as the lobby. This is one of their guest rooms with a stunning view of the Detroit skyline.
You’ll notice a lot of unique art on the walls as well. The Henry prides itself on artistic taste, even featuring its own contemporary art gallery between the ballrooms on the ground floor.

One of the reasons I think this hotel is one of the best ‘stay-cation’ spots in Michigan is because there’s so much to enjoy in the building itself. This especially includes their in-house restaurant, TRIA.
From great drinks to great bar food, to fantastic entrees, TRIA puts an upscale twist on classic American cuisine. One of the things I love the most is their rotating seasonal menu.
This pool is one of the reasons The Henry has a spot on our list of Most Unique Hotels In Michigan. You’ll be hard pressed to find a hotel pool that feels as fancy as this.
The Henry Ford Museum and the Automotive Hall of Fame are both located right down the street from the museum. In fact, Ford’s headquarters can be seen right outside your window.
Its close proximity to Detroit also means it’s in close range to one of the best places to golf in the state, TPC Michigan.
This course designed by world renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus is right across the highway from The Henry. This course has been home to numerous professional golf tournaments. It once hosted the PGA Senior Championship.
The Henry provides an upscale experience for anyone who’s making their way to the Metro Detroit area. The luxurious design and attentive staff make this one of our Best Hotels & Resorts In Michigan. It’s a great option for those needing a place to stay for the night, or anyone planning a stay-cation around Southeast Michigan.
