I'm proud to be from the great state of Michigan. I've lived in the Mitten several different times throughout my life spending time in all corners of it. My journeys took me up and down the Lake Michigan coast, out east to explore Detroit and Ann Arbor, and to the dense forests of the UP.
Before writing with Only In Your State, I worked as a local TV news reporter and anchor, most recently in South Bend. Many of the stories I covered took place in Southwest Michigan. My roots are even deeper in the Wolverine State as I often head to Kalamazoo to visit family.
When I'm not out exploring nature, I'm avidly watching sports. I specifically have a deep love for the Michigan Wolverines (my alma mater), and I get to write about them and several other Big Ten teams as and editor for Athlon Sports. I also love to enjoy the great outdoors with my wife and our dog, Piper.
I'm excited to share all my favorite Michigan destinations with you. Keep exploring.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
If you absolutely love relaxing by the calm waters of Lake Michigan in the summertime, this next resort on our list of the Best Hotels and Resorts in Michigan is for you. I’ve written about all the warm weather activities that make Southwest Michigan special, particularly in the state-line community of New Buffalo.
You can wrap all the summer fun into one trip with a stay at the Marina Grand Resort, one of the best options for on-the-water accommodations in the area. New Buffalo is chock-full of summer fun, and this is an incredible basecamp to experience them all. Rest assured you can expect a comfortable rest at the end of a long day.
Those in the Northeast go to Cape Cod, while those in the Northwest go to Napa Valley. You can get the best of both those locations in the Midwest by traveling to Southwest Michigan. There are several places along the water from our list of the Best Hotels and Resorts in Michigan, and the Marina Grand Resort definitely deserves a top spot on the list.
With a variety of ways to enjoy the warm months, you’ll want to keep this place in mind whether you’re traveling from within the state or crossing state lines. Keep in mind, you might need to splurge a little as rates come in around $350 per night. That’s an easy figure to forget about when you’re letting all the stress melt away while guiding your paddleboard into the sunset.
