I'm proud to be from the great state of Michigan. I've lived in the Mitten several different times throughout my life spending time in all corners of it. My journeys took me up and down the Lake Michigan coast, out east to explore Detroit and Ann Arbor, and to the dense forests of the UP.
Before writing with Only In Your State, I worked as a local TV news reporter and anchor, most recently in South Bend. Many of the stories I covered took place in Southwest Michigan. My roots are even deeper in the Wolverine State as I often head to Kalamazoo to visit family.
When I'm not out exploring nature, I'm avidly watching sports. I specifically have a deep love for the Michigan Wolverines (my alma mater), and I get to write about them and several other Big Ten teams as and editor for Athlon Sports. I also love to enjoy the great outdoors with my wife and our dog, Piper.
I'm excited to share all my favorite Michigan destinations with you. Keep exploring.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
There’s something about being on a college campus that brings back so many great memories. However, some of the aspects of college I try to forget are the grubby living conditions I endured with my roommates. The horrors of college housing are easy to forget for those staying at Graduate East Lansing as it’s one of the Most Unique Hotels In Michigan.
Being a prime destination for Michigan State Spartan fans is just one of the many reasons this hotel receives such high marks (except if you’re from Ann Arbor).
This 10-story upscale hotel has 194 rooms and is only a two-minute walk from the campus of Michigan State University.
If you’ve been to this part of Michigan before and are hearing about Graduate East Lansing for the first time, you’re not alone. It hasn’t been around long with construction complete in 2021.
Since this building is quite new, you’ll see that reflected in the contemporary, yet locally inspired design.
If you feel like there’s a little more green than you’re used to, part of that has to do with the campus next door. Michigan State is the only team in the Big Ten that sports the color, known for their rallying cry, “Go Green.”

The other reason you’ll see shades of green is due to the Northern Michigan-inspired decor.
The lobby is adorned with plenty of live plants, wood accents, and green suede couches. The atmosphere will transport you from Michigan’s capitol to the deep forests of the Upper Peninsula.
This rooftop bar gives guests an amazing view of Michigan State University and Michigan’s capitol. You can sip on one of their Spartan-inspired cocktails in one of their several cozy seating options. If this isn’t one of the Most Unique Hotels In Michigan, it’s certainly got one of the most unique bar atmospheres I’ve seen.
The rooms are just as nice as all the other common spaces we’ve seen so far.
You’ll feel right at home in these spacious rooms with cozy decor. They come with all the amenities you need to be the ‘big man on campus’ including an in-unit ironing board, high-end hygiene products, and blackout curtains for a good night’s rest.
Don’t forget to charge up before you head out. Graduate East Lansing offers a to-go breakfast option that ranges between $5-$15.
Your four-legged friends can also enjoy a trip to one of the Most Unique Hotels In Michigan because Graduate East Lansing is pet-friendly. They’ll certainly appreciate a walk to any of the nearby campus attractions including Spartan Stadium, The Breslin Center (MSU Basketball), and the Eli & Edith Broad Art Museum.
