I'm proud to be from the great state of Michigan. I've lived in the Mitten several different times throughout my life spending time in all corners of it. My journeys took me up and down the Lake Michigan coast, out east to explore Detroit and Ann Arbor, and to the dense forests of the UP.
Before writing with Only In Your State, I worked as a local TV news reporter and anchor, most recently in South Bend. Many of the stories I covered took place in Southwest Michigan. My roots are even deeper in the Wolverine State as I often head to Kalamazoo to visit family.
When I'm not out exploring nature, I'm avidly watching sports. I specifically have a deep love for the Michigan Wolverines (my alma mater), and I get to write about them and several other Big Ten teams as and editor for Athlon Sports. I also love to enjoy the great outdoors with my wife and our dog, Piper.
I'm excited to share all my favorite Michigan destinations with you. Keep exploring.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
The Michigan Wolverines are getting a lot more attention after winning the 2024 College Football National Championship. The historic football program is just one reason folks love to visit Ann Arbor. That doesn’t mean you have to spend an arm and a leg on a place to stay either.
You can stay at one of the Best Hotels in Michigan for a rate you’re comfortable with when you book a room at Weber’s Boutique Hotel. This Ann Arbor brand is much more than just modern rooms. From food to fresh air, this hotel excels in so many areas to make your experience a unique one.
Weber’s first opened its doors in 1937 and has made it a mission to continuously build on excellent service. As styles changed with the decades, so did Weber’s. Still many come back for the nostalgia that still exists in the restaurant’s dining room.
What started as a roadside restaurant in the 1930s grew into a six-room hotel by the 1950s. There was no looking back for the original owner, Herman Weber. The hotel is still owned by the Weber family.
There are 158 guest rooms in this hotel, an impressive improvement from the hotel’s humble roots. Rates for deluxe king rooms can start around $139 per night, while upgraded rooms come with unique amenities you won’t find at other hotels with these rates.
Some rooms come with poolside access, some with in-room spa centers, and even ones with Bluetooth mirrors.

Webers Restaurant and Bar isn’t only the closest dining option for those staying at the hotel, but it’s also one of the most beloved restaurants in Ann Arbor. Even though they’ve upgraded the rooms to modern expectations, the atmosphere in the restaurant retains that nostalgic sentiment for their customers who continue to visit them throughout the decades.
The array of cocktails at the bar is a mix of modern mixology’s finest recipes along with the supper club classics that have lasted on the menu for decades.
The menu continues to feature new dishes, but a few things never change. The prime rib is a house specialty that makes the hotel worthy of a place on our list of the Best Hotels in Michigan.
The chef here told a local radio station that they go through 60,000 lbs. of prime rib per year.
One of the reasons the summers are so enjoyable in Michigan is because we know they won’t last forever. However, the indoor pool at Weber’s will have you basking in the sun in the middle of January.
There’s a ton of natural light that floods the pool area, and several of the rooms have balconies that lead right to the water. With plenty of tables and lounge chairs, you might never leave the pool area.
If you are able to leave the luxury of Weber’s you’ll be faced with plenty of options when exploring Ann Arbor. You can check out the largest sports stadium in North America by visiting Michigan Stadium. The University of Michigan campus also offers plenty of beautiful sights and stunning museums.
There’s a restaurant for every taste in Ann Arbor. Whether you want a nice steak dinner, an all-vegan menu, an Indian buffet, or a 24-hour diner food, you’ll find it here. There are so many other options too, I almost feel bad not being able to give them all shoutouts.
Ann Arbor is a place I hold very close to my heart. I’ve made several memories here throughout my life, but when I think of the times I’ve spent at Weber’s Boutique Hotel, I’m always reminded of family. It’s a hotel that shows how much it cares by not only updating throughout the years, but also preserving the unique elements that make this hotel special.
This is an excellent hotel that comes with affordable rates you wouldn’t expect from one of the Best Hotels in Michigan.
