Whether you’re enjoyed a hilly hike, taken a jaunt down the sand at Sleeping Bear Dunes, or simply admired the scenery at one of our countless beaches, there’s no doubt that you’ve been awed by these natural gems. There’s one tour here in Michigan that will bring you up close and personal with our delightful dunes in an entirely new way – and you’ll want to experience it for yourself.
Mac Wood’s Dune Rides operate from 629 N 18th Ave in Mears.
These fascinating rides take visitors on an unforgettable journey along the shoreline, traveling up and down the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in all their glory.
What began as a family activity for Mac Wood himself in 1930 quickly grew into a beloved local tradition. No matter how many times you’ve ridden, you’ll have a blast.
This year, dune rides open for the season on May 11 - but it’s never too early to start dreaming of summer! Reservations are only required for groups of 20 riders or more.
Each ride spans approximately seven miles of land and lasts for 40 minutes. Riders will catch panoramic views of the dunes, nearby Silver Lake, and Lake Michigan itself.
Zoom through valleys, drive up stunning peaks, and bask in the sunshine of this sandy paradise. You might just feel as if you’ve landed on an entirely new planet.
Kids and adults alike will be blown away by the excitement of this fun-filled excursion. Tickets for children ages 3-11 cost $12, while those 12 and older will pay $18.
