When you think about animals who call Michigan home, alligators might not be the first creatures that come to mind. Much to the surprise of many Michiganders, though, our state houses a unique sanctuary where visitors can get up-close and personal with alligators and other fascinating reptiles while learning more about each animal. Mark your calendar for a journey to this fun spot.
Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary is located at 1698 M-66 in Athens.
If you’re fascinated by alligators and other reptiles, you’ll be in heaven when you plan a visit to the sanctuary. This unique locale is home to hundreds of amazing creatures.
The alligators and other critters who call Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary home are all acquired via adoption or rescue from other institutions. None of the animals here are bought or sold.
While the sanctuary is primarily open to the public during the spring, summer, and fall months, there are still chances to visit during the winter season when you book a zoo encounter.
Each encounter lasts for 30 minutes and is limited to one household at a rate of $30. You’ll have the chance to interact with three fascinating creatures from the sanctuary.
Details about zoo encounters can be found at the link below. Whether you enjoy this private option or wait for the sanctuary to re-open for public visits, you’ll have an absolute blast.
During warmer seasons, take a stroll through the swamp area to admire alligators as they lounge and swim in their habitat. Guests even have the chance to feed gators.
