The Bay State is one of the smallest states in the country, so you may not have guessed that it is home to the largest collection of World War II Naval vessels in the world. But it is a fact. Battleship Cove in Massachusetts is where you can find the world’s largest collection of U.S. Navy ships along with numerous additional artifacts that were part of the war.
The city of Fall River sits along the Taunton River and is home to Battleship Cove. This maritime museum harbors the largest collection of WWII vessels in the world.
It may be surprising to learn that Massachusetts, one of the smallest states in the country, is home to so many WWII ships. After all, the war was fought mainly in Europe as well as East Asia and the Pacific Islands.
Battleship Cove is home to five U.S. Naval ships that are designated National Historic Landmarks. The mission of the museum is to preserve naval history and honor war veterans who defended our country.
Visitors can view and/or tour several ships including the USS Massachusetts, the USS Lionfish, and the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. The collection of Battleship Cove's historically significant ships is quite impressive.
Also home to the seasonal indoor Fall River Maritime Museum, you can see several exhibits on the Titanic, the history of maritime travel, and the Fall River Line.
