What are some things to do in winter in Massachusetts?
Just because the weather outside can get a bit crisp during a Massachusetts winter, it doesn't mean we have to stay holed up inside. Here are some fun things to do in winter in Massachusetts:
- Lowell Winterfest, Lowell, MA: Many small towns in Massachusetts have a Winterfest celebration. Lowell is a beautiful town in the winter and this fun event will warm you up with ice sculpting competitions, fire dancing, ice skating, a chocolate festival, craft beer, and delicious food trucks. As long as it is blustery and blowy outside, we may as well enjoy it with a town-wide party. The event takes place in late February.
- MSPCA Polar Plunge, Centerville, MA: Another "fun" event is the polar plunge at Craigville Beach. In true New England hardcore style, those who are brave enough to jump around in the fridge waters of the Nantucket Sound in early February will be rewarded with a hot bowl of chili. They will also know in their hearts that they helped raise money for animals in need. Even if you aren't up for a freezing dip, you can still enjoy some hot chili.
- Go ice skating at the Boston Frog Pond: This summer pool in the heart of Boston turns into a fun skating rink in the wintertime. Boston Common is one of the oldest city parks in the country having been established in 1634. Skating at Frog Pond is a pretty fantastic way to spend a winter day with tall skyscrapers setting a picture-perfect background. You can even get private lessons if you are still a little wobbly on your skates.
