Spring hasn’t sprung quite yet in Massachusetts. Though the official start of spring is March 20, the Bay State has been experiencing an onslaught of wintery weather than just won’t quit. And it looks like more cold and snow are on the way. Here’s what you should know.
An early March snowstorm just dropped more than a foot of snow in places across the state and left some communities without power. Unfortunately, this blizzard isn’t the season’s first — or last.
This winter has been a tough one for Massachusetts. With record-breaking snowfalls, a series of snowstorms, and freezing temperatures, we’re all definitely ready for spring.
However, it looks as if we’ll have to wait a little bit longer. The National Weather Service has announced that more snow and ice is on the way for Massachusetts this weekend.
Estimated snowfall totals are still uncertain, but residents in the western part of the state should be prepared for a freezing mix of snow, sleet, and rain between March 9 and 11.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, experts are also predicting that freezing temperatures are likely to persist into mid-March and possibly straight into April.
In order to stay safe and cozy during this cold spell, be sure your home and car are stocked with winter essentials such as blankets, extra clothing, flashlights, water, and heat packs. You’ll also want to throw in a shovel (or two) as well as ice scrapers.
Keep an eye on the shifting forecast here. Don’t let the chilly weather get you down — Massachusetts is actually full of spots that are so much better in the winter. Click here to find out where to stay, play, and eat this cold season.
